Programs & Services
The Urban Outreach Center provides a variety of programs and services to meet the needs of the community.
Basic Needs Programs
The ELCA Urban Outreach Center provides basic necessities to the community free of charge. Basic needs assistance is available Monday-Friday, 9am – 12:30pm and Saturday, 9-11am.
Clothing Closet: Free clothes are available to the public.
Personal Care Program: Items such as soap, shampoo, dental hygiene, diapers, formula and more are available to anyone in need. Personal care items are handed out starting the 15th of each month.
Prescription Assistance: Individuals can get up to $25 towards the purchase of prescription.
Referrals: The Outreach Coordinator helps individuals and families locate other needed services in the Kenosha Community.
Job Search Assistance
Individuals looking for work can get one-on-one support and access to other job search tools, including:
- Internet access and newspapers
- Resume building assistance
- Access to phone, fax, printer and copy machine
- Professional attire for job interviews
Job search assistance is available Monday-Friday, 9am – 12:30pm and Saturday, 9-11am.
Adult Education
The Urban Outreach Center provides free classes to help residents gain basic skills that are needed in today’s work place.
GED Classes*: GED classes are offered in English and Spanish. A $10 deposit is required for the study guide. The deposit is refunded upon return of the guide. The Center also covers the cost of the GED test which is offered through Gateway Technical College.
Spanish classes are held on Wednesdays and Fridays, 5-7pm**
English classes are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 5-7pm**Computer Class*: Learn the basics of using a computer including: navigating the windows environment, word processing and surfing the internet.
Computer classes are held on Saturdays, 9 -10:30am**
*All classes are self-paced and can be started at anytime.

Youth Programs
Children ages 6 and up can participate in fun, educational programs that stimulate learning and inspire a positive self-image.
4-H Angel’s Club: Children learn to give back to the community by participating in service learning activities. Youth also get the opportunity to work on great arts and craft projects.
The 4-H Angel’s Club meets on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month, 5-7pm.
Girls Together*: Young women ages 12-17 participate in community activities and group outings and learn valuable lessons about growing up and self-image.
Grace Safe Place*: Summer program for youth.
Christmas Gift Giveaway: Parents can sign their children up for the annual Christmas gift giveaway. Sign-up begins every year in mid-September and ends in early December; gifts are distributed in mid-December.
Proof of identity (i.e. birth certificate, forward card, social security card, etc.) is required for each child.

Social Programs
The Urban Outreach Center is the heart of Kenosha’s inner-city neighborhood, bringing residents together to meet and socialize through social groups and programs.
Community Bible Study: Neighborhood residents join together to share God’s Word. Bible study is held on Thursdays, 10-11am.
Chat-n-Chew*: This series of programs focuses on topics such as: bullying/harassment, adolescent behavior, communications with your teen, and current information on alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use/abuse prevention.
Women’s Circle*: Social group for women to chat about topics and issues that are important to them.
